Trump Administration Pauses New Student Visa Interviews


Secretary of State Marco Rubio instructed U.S. embassies and consulates to pause new visa interviews for foreign students until the Administration releases expanded social media screening and vetting requirements.

Judge Issues Restraining Order Preventing the Trump Administration From Terminating Harvard's SEVP Certification


On May 22, 2025, the Trump Administration announced the termination of Harvard's Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification, which enables the university to enroll foreign students. This decision was made based on allegations of pro-terrorist and anti-American protests on its campus. Harvard, in response, filed a lawsuit to contest the SEVP termination.  The next day, a judge issued a restraining order which blocked the Administration from withdrawing Harvard's SEVP certification.

Supreme Court Allows the Termination of Venezuela's Temporary Protected Status 


In an 8-1 ruling, the Supreme Court suspended an order that prevented the Trump Administration from moving forward with the termination of Venezuela's 2023 Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation. Venezuela's 2021 TPS designation is not affected, and is set to expire September 10, 2025.

Injunction Prevents Student Visa Terminations Pending Ongoing Lawsuits


An injunction by a U.S. District Court Judge will prevent international students from being arrested due to their immigration status or from being transferred to other jurisdictions pending the decisions of hundreds of ongoing lawsuits regarding nationwide terminations of students' SEVIS records.

DHS Terminates Afghanistan's Temporary Protected Status

Afghanistan's Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation has been terminated. It expired on May 20th, 2025, and will officially be terminated on July 12th, 2025.

China Relaxes its Visa-Free Transit Policy


China's Visa-Free Transit policy allows individuals traveling between countries to stay in China for a limited time without needing a visa. China's National Immigration Association announced in December that they would relax the policy by broadening eligibility, extending maximum duration time, expanding the number of regions permitted for travel, and more.
